“UNEXCEPTIONAL TRICKS”
2004 World Tour
Folk/performance artist Max rada dada kicks off his 2004 World Tour,
"Unexceptional Tricks," at Harrisburg, Pennsylvania's Patriot News Arts Fest Saturday,
May 29th through 31st.
“Unexceptional Tricks” celebrates the Year of the Monkey with "tricks"
performed in uniquely constructed costumes, with rada dada unveiling strange
objects and unbelievable paraphernalia. "No one's ever seen this before," asserts
rada dada, who says he has "practiced a lot" in order to present his antics atop
an ironing board reached by his childhood bunk bed's ladder.
Stacked Tupperware® tumblers, balanced pot lids, irons, ropes, a tattooed
doll baby and a wig box are just a sampling of the found objects that amaze and
delight. To add to it all, original oddities and malformed masterpieces from
the imaginations of Max’s artistic cohorts will be paraded for your
viewing…pleasure?
In the great tradition of dada masters Marcel Duchamp and Tristan Tzara,
“Unexceptional Tricks” re-imagines everyday objects as sources of visual pun and
word play. “It’s not a show,” insists rada dada. “It’s an intermission-- a
magic sideshow, exciting the imagination with focused meditation on the essence
of activity and the miracle of the ordinary.”
Eagle Scout rada dada, from Toledo, Ohio, has performed at Charleston's
Spoleto Festival (1997, 1998) and New York City’s New Museum (1997).
With an itinerary that includes Chicago, St. Louis, Denver and Los Angeles,
“Unexceptional Tricks” is being performed at theaters, art galleries, crafts
venues, trunk showings, stores and street shows.
rada dada's 2004 World Tour wraps up on July 18th in Sausalito, California at
the Headlands Center for the Arts Open House.
F“Unexceptional Tricks” is subtitled "Journey to 'O'," as rada dada plans to
solicit advice from everyone he meets about how to score an appearance on
Oprah Winfrey's TV show.
